The City of Florence and the Region of Tuscany have collaborated to finish off the Week of Creativity with an evening full of events set to last into the early hours of the morning on Sunday, May 22nd.

This first trial run is to be a precursor to the true “Nottata Fiorentina” set for June 2006 and is an experiment to see whether Florence can recreate the event that proved to be such a success for Rome the last two years. Rome’s “Notte Bianca” has been so incredibly successful that most other Italian cities are following its example with similar initiatives. Florence is the first city, after Rome, to try putting on the all night event.

Concerts in piazzas, shops open late, museums opened for night tours, and many other events will offer a good excuse not to sleep on Saturday night.

For those interested in cultural activities, the Palazzo Vecchio,  Accademia, Palazzo Panciatichi, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, and the Ferragamo Museum will all keep their doors open for late-night visitors.

Central piazzas will also be offering their share of activities. A concert of Irish music will be held in Piazza Santo Spirito, and Piazza Santa Croce will host a Spaghettata, or a spaghetti feast.

Boat races and displays will be held on the Arno River. Bookstores will remain open along with many artisan shops throughout the centre.
