It was only fitting that last week’s Motorcycle Grand Prix, held at the Italian circuit in the Mugello mountains of the Tuscany region was both won and dominated by Italians.

The star of the show was Valentino Rossi, for Yamaha, who quickly settled into his usual first-place slot. Close behind him and coming in second place was another Italian, Max Biaggi (Honda). Italians Loris Capirossi (Ducati) and Marco Melandri took third and fourth place, respectively.

Thousands of fans cheered on the exciting race, that once again had a tight run between enemies-of-old Rossi and Biaggi. With the quadruple Italian win, Italy celebrated a victory the likes of which has not occurred in over 40 years.

The race also managed to attract a record number of television viewers: 7,602,000 (46.37% of all viewers) were tuned to the race.
