“It is the same spirit shared by every builder of civilisations: foresight, strong will, sharp mind, bold perseverance,” said Giovanni Fossi, president of the Firenze Est Rotary Club, “and we are proud to maintain our tradition of celebrating the discovery of America by awarding great personalities who have excelled in their fields with the Columbus spirit award.” Fossi has promoted this ceremony for 24 years under the patronage of the Florentine Municipality. This year the prestigious plaque has been given to Piero Antinori, renowned entrepreneur from an ancient aristocratic family, who has crowned Tuscan wines with prestige and excellence world-wide; to Paolo Galluzzi, illustrious professor of History of Science; and to Franco Scaramuzzi, distinguished researcher of agronomy sciences. The ceremony was followed by a lavish reception at Palagio di Parte Guelfa. (M. Guarnieri)
