According to Italian officials, despite supplies from Russia falling by about a quarter, the dispute between Russia and Ukraine does not seem to have disrupted gas supplies to Italy. 60% of Italian electricity is produced by using natural gas, most of which comes from abroad. Though the combined supply of gas from Algeria and Libya (20 billion cubic metres and 8 billion cubic metres respectively) makes up the majority, a large part also comes from Russia (24 billion cubic metres). Italy has received gas from Russian giant Gazprom since an historic deal in 1969. The remaining 16 billion cubic metres, is piped from Norwegian and Dutch fields in the North Sea. In winter Italy consumes about 380 million cubic metres of gas every weekday. Electricity group ENEL announced that power stations have continued to run at full capacity.
