A cup of coffee will soon cost Florentines one euro at bars in the historic centre. Consumer associations report that java prices in the city have recently shot up 6 percent, from the previous 80–85 cents a cup. The city’s 91,000 coffee addicts who prefer ducking into a bar for their morning espresso, can find a less expensive refuge at only a few cafés in and around Florence. Provincial president of the Fiepet-Confesercenti business association, Uliano Ragionieri, contends that coffee costs are in line with the inflation levels.
