On October 11, the new museum of Giotto’s house will be inaugurated in
Vicchio, a small
village 35 km from Florence. The new museum is the result of an innovative
programme of museological recovery that the Council has carried out with
the contribution of Regione Toscana, Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze e
Giotto-Fila. According to legend, the artist who revolutionized painting was born
here in the 13th century. Vicchio was also home to the key artists of Middle
Ages and Renaissance like Beato Angelico and Benvenuto Cellini.
The new Giotto house has been planned not as a monument, but as a
meeting place for knowledge and creativity. Interactive multimedia,
video-environments and studios allow visitors to rediscover Giatto in a modern
context. The house does not present itself as a museum in the traditional
meaning of the word, but as a space of experiences and artistic productions
that become animated during weekend visits or school outings.
Here, learning becomes an active experience as guests make their way
through the halls of images, discovering stories that join the past and
present. The interior of the house and its beautiful surrounding landscape are
an ideal setting to observe Giotto’s works and the experience of the studios of
art.
Inauguration Programme (October, 11 – starting at 3 p.m.): naturalist and artistic tours,
projections of contemporary visual art, studios about colours for children
under 12 years.
