Have
you caught the tango fever? Want to learn to salsa? Wondering about the waltz?
Anyone who loves dance will revel in the offerings of the world’s largest fair
dedicated to all things dance, held annually in Florence. Danza in Fiera 2009
runs from February 19 to 22 at the Fortezza da Basso.

Over
four days, 250 exhibitors will offer an array of events in seven pavilions,
including free dance lessons, dance-offs, casting for TV and film, meetings
with famous faces and performances by Italy’s best dance troupes.

Participants
can learn dances old and new, from hip-hop and cheerleading to oriental and
Irish dance, and discover innovative new dance forms, such as Tangolates, which
blends tango with Pilates. Lessons are open to the public and free of charge.

Dance aficionados will
have the chance to see rare performances by some of Italy’s most prestigious
theatre companies, among them the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, the Accademia
Nazionale di Danza, the Opera di Roma and the San Carlo di Napoli. Performances
and talks with special guests include Kledi Kadiu, Maestro Frédéric Olivieri,
Steve La Chance, Rossella Brescia, Josè Perez and maestro of 1950s burlesque,
Madeleine de la Crème.

There
will be fun for youngsters, too. The Disney Channel will again occupy an entire
pavilion this year, where kids can learn dance secrets, take lessons, sing
karaoke and learn how to look and dress like a dance star. A
special guest is American actress Jemma McKenzie-Brown, who played Tiara Gold
in High School Musical 3. She will be present at Danza in Fiera on
February 19 and 20 to meet her fans.
