Although it was once the central train station for the
city of Florence, the Stazione Leopolda has not seen a train arrive for many
years. On February 1, city officials officially marked the departure first
train from the newly named Firenze Porta al Prato train station, which is on
track to once again become a hub for regional rail service. The station will serve
Empoli-Signa-Florence routes as well as a new route connecting Florence to Le
Piagge, San Donnino, Lastra a Signa and Montelupo in just 30 minutes.
