The Electronic Heath Card (CSE) will soon arrive at homes across the region. The government started sending out the new health cards in late-April and by the end of June, Tuscany’s 3,600,000 residents will have received one in their mailbox.
The new cards are novel because their hold the entire health history of each cardholder. From vaccinations and exams taken, allergies and medicinal intolerances to the number and type of surgeries and pathologies. Many of the cards have been sent to homes automatically but to activate the card holders can go to any of the region’s 250 Asl health offices or hospitals to request a personal identification number. To view their clinical history, holders can use the card at the smart card readers, available in Asl health offices (holders can also purchase a smart card reader at any Asl if they wish).
The CSE substitutes the previous card upon its expiry. For more information on the card, call the hotline at 800/004477 (Mon to Fri, 9am to 7pm and Sat, from 9am to 1pm, except holidays); email help.cse@regione.toscana.it; or see http://www.regione.toscana.it/cartasanitaria.
