Buried was a surprising Sundance Festival hit, and its premise belies its fascination: 170,000 square miles of desert; 90 minutes of oxygen; no way out. As its title suggests, the story centres on being buried alive and the experience is related at first hand. Paul Conroy (Ryan Reynolds) is a US contractor working in Iraq delivering supplies. After an Iraqi attack, he finds himself buried alive in a coffin with scarce resources … the rest can be imagined but not as straightforwardly as you might think. An original and captivating thriller that despite its limited setting-a man in a box-manages to keep you on the edge of your seat-provided you take a deep breath. Claustrophobics beware!
