In its fourth year, Florence’s Festival della Creatività sheds its skin, emerging from its traditional location at the Fortezza da Basso to instead stage all activities and events in the heart of the city. From October 21 through 24, with the theme Brainstorming: Ideas that Change Our Lives, this year’s festival brings a vast array of events, workshops and exhibitions with an international focus.
Investigating and celebrating global ‘ideas that can change our lives,’ the event will bring four days of non-stop entertainment and learning to Florence’s main piazzas in the historic city centre.
The guest of honor is France, whose state-sponsored and private entries, like those from Britain, Spain, the United States, China, Japan, Colombia and Argentina, explore the creativity at work in the world’s biggest cities.
The spotlight shines on France in piazza Ognissanti, with the works of artists Felix Nadar and Philippe Djian. The Museo Nazionale Alinari della Fotografia will view Florence and Paris from a new angle, and the Odeon will be showing French and French-inspired movies.
The British Council also brings a dose of internationality with the social project Global Changemakers, along with a conference featuring the head of community projects, Gabriela Jaeger. The Royal Academy of Arts in London will put old pictures of London on display and the Transport of London will highlight its successful campaigns promoting the use of bicycles.
Colombia’s contributions showcase the architecture, social projects and music of Medellin, which along with a light show from Tokyo, will be part of a grand exhibition. From Spain comes Barcelona’s ideas of the future-which are sealed in a capsule-as well as the results of the international Solar Decathlon 2010.
