December 17  to 19, Ponte Vecchio

Inaugurated in 1997, when brand Conte of Florence decided it was time to bring the historic sport to the historic centre of Florence, the event features sixteen pros representing various nations attempting to rack up points by driving golf balls from the Ponte Vecchio onto three floating greens on the Arno. Golf superstars Bernhard Langer of Germany, Swede Robert Karisson and Frenchman Raphael Jaquelin feature among this year’s competitors, who will face off in pairs in a match play formula. A host of side events are planned in conjunction with the challenge, including wine tastings, guided tours of the historic centre (and Vasari Corridor!) and much more. For information or reservations, call 011/5618956 or visit www.pontevecchiochallenge.it.
