From the seaside to the hillside,
from one Tuscan city to another: by year’s end Lucca and Pisa will be connected
by the longest bike path in Tuscany, measuring 45 kilometres when it’s finished
by year’s end. Cyclists can pedal from Pisa along the Serchio River, passing
through Lake Massaciuccoli to Lucca’s medieval walls and bastions. With the
latest phase of works completed in mid-March, the path is named after
Lucca-born composer, Giacomo Puccini. The new bike path, which cost 500,000
euro when finished, is the latest project in a series that seeks to increase
environmentally sustainable tourism in the region.
