Primavera wins Coppa Italia Primavera 2010-2011

After their March 16 draw in Florence, the Fiorentina and Roma met again on March 30 for the finals of the Coppa Italia Primavera. Swiss striker Haris Seferovic scored the first goal after 27 minutes of play, putting the Fiorentina in the lead. After three minutes of play in the second half, Roma tied the match. Fifteen minutes later, Cristian Piccini kicked a cross, but instead scored a goal. In the second minute of overtime, Federico Carraro scored a goal after the team was awarded a penalty kick. The Fiorentina won the match 1-3 and are now the Coppa Italia Primavera champions for 2010-2011.

Mihajlovic to stay

To dispel rumors that Sinisa Mihajlovic might be asked to leave, co-owner Andrea Della Valle talked about the head coach's two-year contract after the match against Rome on March 21. ‘We respect contracts and we will stay together long-term.'

Viola players play for their national teams

At the end of March, many of the Viola players went to play for their national teams: Valon Behrami for Switzerland, Adem Ljajic for Serbia, Alberto Gilardino and Riccardo Montolivo for Italy, Adrian Mutu for Romania, and Manuel Vargas for Peru. Gilardino was the captain for the Italian team in the second half of the March 29 match against Ukraine.

Behrami injured

During the Bulgaria-Switzerland match on March 26, Behrami injured his knee; he is expected to be out for three weeks.

Frey and Jovetic returning

After long absences from the Fiorentina, French goalkeeper Sebastien Frey and Montenegrin striker Stevan Jovetic are on the mend and should be joining their teammates in April.

Happy Birthday to Cesare Natali

Fiorentina defender Cesare Natali, originally from Bergamo, celebrated his 32nd birthday on April 5. Natali has been with the Fiorentina since 2009.

A draw in Cesena

On April 3, the Fiorentina went to Cesena in search of a win against one of the bottom three ranked teams of the Serie A. Luis Jimenez put Cesena in the lead by scoring a goal in the 18th minute. Seventeen minutes later Gilardino scored a goal to tie up the match. Midfielder Montolivo scored a goal to put the Fiorentina in the lead in the middle of the second half. Only five minutes before the end of the match, Fabio Caserta tied up the match for Cesena thus giving each team one point in the Serie A rankings. The Fiorentina ends the week in ninth place.
