The Monash University Prato Centre and the PIN Polo Universitario Città di Prato have opened a call for papers on Chinese migration, entrepreneurship and development in the new global economy, to be presented at a symposium in English on the topic on October 29 and 30, 2013.
This symposium seeks a better understanding of Chinese migration in the present era of globalisation. It is known that Wenzhou Chinese migration is characterised by a specific entrepreneurial culture (small family businesses which are often interconnected) and that Chinese communities are scattered all over the world and linked by these networks. In recent decades, marked by increasing globalisation and the rise of China as an economic superpower, the role of these Chinese migrants and entrepreneurs has changed, with important consequences for the economic, social and political contexts of both the sending and receiving countries or areas, yet these contexts remain to be studied in depth.
Submissions should be emailed as a word document to chineseinprato2013@monash.it by March 31, 2013.
Detailed program will be online soon; see call details and further information here.
