The city of Piombino is now part of the province of Grosseto, following the recent vote by the city council, which approved by an overwhelming majority a proposal for the city’s inclusion in the province of Grosseto.

The proposal to leave the province of Livorno for the province of Grosseto was launched last year and a petition with more than 6,000 signatures was presented last December to the Piombino city council.

‘It is an act of political value,’ said the mayor of Piombino, Gianni Anselmi, ‘that expresses the desire to rapidly eliminate the provincial levels of government and place our territory, and, we hope, all of the Val di Cornia but also the Island of Elba, in a framework that better unites a piece of Tuscany that has been improperly administered for far too long.’
