Caro Sindaco,

I live near the Cascine and, like most Florentines, I’ve used our park the whole of my life, as a kid to kick a ball around, then as an adult when I went jogging there practically every day. Now that I’m not so young I enjoy taking long walks in the park. I remember that you had a plan to develop the Cascine and that it was part of your electoral campaign, but so far hardly anything has been done. I guess the main reason is a lack of funding, but I’d appreciate it if you could explain to me lo stato dell'arte.

Thanks, Sandro Sanavio

Dear Sandro,

I would like to thank you for your letter, as it gives me a chance to talk about the plans we have for the Cascine and the progress we are making to realize them. We are now inviting bids to transform the Palazzina dell’Indiano into a restaurant and tourist centre; a new restaurant at the former Royal Stables will be inaugurated this July; and, on May 31, at the Pavoniere, the Sacred Art School was officially opened on the first floor of the building.  At the former club Central Park, work is already underway to create a restaurant, an information point, and a bike and electric car rental point. The former disco Meccanò will soon be razed in order to make way for a snack bar and a landscaped green area. By the end of this administration’s mandate a year from now, there will be a new lighting system throughout the Cascine, which will change the way the entire park is seen. And that’s not all: there will be a boardwalk leading from the Cascine to the open spaces of Argingrosso where a new golf course will be built.

So there you have it: 'the state of the art' on the work being done at Le Cascine and the changes that you will soon see there.

Best, Matteo
