While the 2012/13 Serie A season may have finished, and the Viola players are taking a well-earned rest after their successful campaign, ACF Fiorentina’s board members have been busy reinforcing the squad ahead of the 2013/14 season, which will include games at a European level. Spain duo Joaquín Sánchez and Marcos Alonso have successfully completed their transfers to Fiorentina and Guillermo Cuadrado has become a fully fledged Viola player after spending the 2012/13 season on loan. Here is a look at further transfer news concerning Fiorentina.
Signings. Fiorentina have sealed a four-year deal for Bayern Munich forward Mario Gomez. Costing 16 million euro up front, the 27-year-old German striker is expected to bring some much-needed firepower to Fiorentina’s frontline. The Viola have also signed Massimo Ambrosini, a veteran central midfielder from AC Milan. Ambrosini comes to Florence on a one-year deal.
Departures. Speculation continues to surround the future of Fiorentina’s star striker, Stevan Jovetić. Jovetić has expressed his desire to leave Fiorentina, but the deal that seemed forthcoming with Juventus is not going forward. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has recently expressed his admiration of the Montenegrin forward. Luca Toni has left the Viola after signing a one-year contract with Hellas Verona. The 36-year-old striker scored eight Serie A goals for Fiorentina last season in his second spell at the club.
