Until September 19 the Limonaia at Villa Strozzi is hosting the first SOURCE exhibit including a free show displaying the work of 40 Italian and international designers. There will be two workshops on photography and film-making as well as debates and seminars, which are mostly free to attend. You can find out about crowdfunding, online sales and the potential of 3D printing thanks to start-ups Eppela, Maketank Firenze and Kentstrapper.

The event is being organised by the cultural association, Altrove, led by Roberto Rubini and Sandro Marini, and hopes to draw public attention to self-made design. This process directly involves the designer at all stages of production—from the drawing board to the finished product and its distribution. It is a chance to reflect on the importance of modern art and craftsmanship as a means of leaving the economic crisis behind and as a key part of identity.

The president of the cultural committee, Leonardo Bieber, stated that the project is an excellent initiative that will do wonders for the city. He also confirmed that the project would be running in collaboration with Florence Design Week, the European Institute of Design (IED) as well as with Artour-O.
