Let’s Work Artisans! Junior introduces children between 6 and 12 to the world of traditional artisanship while also teaching English in a fun and relaxed environment.

A project by Osservatorio dei Mestieri d’Arte (OmA), an association of artisans and artists, Let’s Work Artisans! Junior offers free, hands-on workshops in English, facilitated by artisan experts and cultural mediators.

In collaboration with the Ferragamo Foundation, until March 2014 the focus of the workshops, which will be held at the Ferragamo museum, will be on shoemaking. The story of Salvatore Ferragamo will be told in English and master artisans will show participants how to make a sandal along with other shoemaking techniques, traditions and terminology. Participants will also make a small theatre from a variety of materials.

In addition to children’s events, Let’s Work Artisans! Junior hosts events for international students in Florence and workshops overseas. In December, the project is hosting a two-week workshop at Shih Chien University in Taiwan, focused on Florence-made fashion. See www.osservatoriomestieridarte.it

Reservations for the workshops are mandatory. For more information, see http://theflr.net/bnfh2c or e-mail info@letsworkartisans.it
