On January 25, Scuderia Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters played host to the unveiling of the company’s 2014 Formula 1 car. After more than one million fans submitted votes, Ferrari announced that the name of the car would be the F14-T, a combination of the current year and the new turbo power unit.  The 2014 drivers for Ferrari will be Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen, the most experienced pairing of Formula 1 drivers of the current era. Ferrari is clearly looking to regain the championship and bring it back home to Italy. With numerous rule changes going into effect this season, the design process began more than two years ago. The F14-T features a particularly flat nose to meet regulations requiring a lower chassis to increase driver safety. It is now mandatory that the front wing be 75 millimetres narrower per side to make it less vulnerable to other cars and track safety barriers. The rear wing features a completely fresh design in compliance with three new rules. Ferrari has also added a new 1.6-litre V6 turbo engine to the rear, along with a more powerful energy recovery system.

These changes and new Pirelli tires will surely make for an exciting season for Ferrari fans. Testing of the F14-T begins January 28, 2014 in Jerez, Spain. The first race of the season will be in Australia on March 16, 2014.
