If you are new to Florence, welcome! The Florentine is your passport to explore the city, packed with news, events and tips on how to make the most of your time in this beautiful place we are lucky to call home, whether for a semester or for life.

If you are a regular reader, no doubt you’ll be happy to have The Florentine as a piece of paper in your hands. Fresh from the resounding success of TF’s first ever digital-only issue (you wouldn’t believe us if we told you how many people downloaded and read it), The Florentine is happy to be back on paper, available free of charge from its usual points all over Florence—you can get The Florentine anytime from the Paperback Exchange, in via delle Oche, 4R, and from B&M Books, in borgo Ognissanti, 4R.

This year, in addition to paper copies published every month, you can follow TF online, with breaking news at www.theflorentine.net and via Facebook and Twitter. Alternatively, stay connected with a digital subscription at theflr.net/pdfsub, enriched with extra interactive content, such as videos and clickable links.

In this student issue, we offer you tips about where to buy cheap furniture and where to get long-term bike rental. Find out about how internships work in Italy, and impress your host family and friends with an indulgent traditional pasta dish, crespelle alla fiorentina. Check our events listing, packed with fun things to see and do in the city and beyond.

To welcome newcomers to the city and stay in touch with regular readers, this month we are running TF’s first Instagram contest #TheFlorentineinme, with prizes from some of Florence’s finest American food places, and a meet-and-greet TF karaoke night at historic Red Garter on February 12 at 9pm.

Enjoy The Florentine, explore the city, and see you at the TF karaoke night on February 12!
