Step aside, Sundance: the tenth edition of the Lucca Film Festival is bringing one of Hollywood’s biggest names to Tuscany. David Lynch, the American director, screenwriter and producer behind Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead and Twin Peaks, will be the guest of honor at the event, which takes place September 28 to October 3.

A large portion of the festival will pay homage to Lynch, who will be in town from September 27 to 30. Attendees can enjoy a complete retrospective of his movies, along with the premiere screening of three short films that are currently being restored for the Criterion collection. Apart from the cinema on tap, expect concerts featuring standouts from Lynch’s scores and soundtracks, talks and exhibitions centring on his work’s motifs, and more.  Similar events and retrospectives will also celebrate work by John Boorman, Brazilian filmmaker Julio Bressane and the late Italian director-poet Pier Paolo Pasolini. Aspiring directors will also have their moment in the spotlight: the festival will host special screenings of 26 experimental short films, selected from a pool of over 1000 submissions.
