Italy placed on the podium at the 60th Eurovision Song Contest with operatic track Grande Amore.

Italy came third with 292 votes after Sweden’s Måns Zelmerlöw with Heroes (365) and Russia’s Polina Gagarina with A Million Voices (303). Il bel Paese was represented by Il Volo, a group of two tenors and a baritone from Sicily, Bologna and Abruzzo respectively: Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble. Inspired by the country’s operatic tradition with a contemporary vibe, the song Grande Amore won the Sanremo Festival in 2014.

The group can return from Vienna satisfied with the result; Germany received ‘nul points,’ while the United Kingdom and Spain embarrassingly placed near the bottom of the table.
