Data from a recent Confagricultura Toscana report indicates that 2015 was a red-letter year for Tuscan wine exports, with a record turnover of 588 million euro, a 10.5 percent increase from 2014.
Confagricoltura Toscana’s representative for the wine sector, Francesco Colpizzi, commented, ‘these numbers confirm that our region is among the most active on the international scene.’
Tuscan products account for two percent of global wine exports. In 2015, the average price per litre of Tuscan wine increased from 4.7 euro to 4.9 euro.
While Colpizzi attributes some of this year’s success to Tuscan winemakers’ savvy approach to the euro devaluation against the American dollar and British pound, Tuscan winemakers are also seeing continued success in Asia, the result of significant investments. However, Colpizzi notes, breaking back into the Russian market remains one of the Confagricoltura’s challenges.
