Turkish-born French actor Tchéky Karyo takes to the stage in Jimi Hendrix: Electric Monologue, Zeno Bianu’s poetic vision inspired by Jimi Hendrix’s unfinished lyric ‘The story of life is quicker than the wink of an eye,’ which prompted him imagine the state Hendrix might have entered in the first moments after his death. The draw of the show, primarily in French, is the layering of Karyo’s voice on Hendrix-inspired sounds and riffs engineered by Philippe Moja. Need a night out that breaks up your usual routine? Head to the International Skate Awards for impressively acrobatic performances by international ice skating champions, from soloists and pairs to large synchronized groups. Florence is the only stop in Italy for this unconventional showcase, which previously toured through Bogotà, Shanghai and Buenos Aires. Most of the competitive action will take place on Saturday, January 23, beginning at 9pm, with awards for best performance and top young talents. On Sunday at 4pm, the skaters will mix it up a bit, with a performance of a musical, ‘Time Explorers,’ which incorporates live singing, dance and rhythmic gymnastics.
