Mortadella, biscotti di Prato and Carmignano DOCG wine will be the main attractions at the first EatPrato festival, which will take place in piazza del Comune from June 17 to 19. Organized by the city of Prato in collaboration with the Associazione Strada dei Vini di Carmignano e dei Sapori Tipici Pratesi, EatPrato will feature cooking shows, tastings and performances. The opening lecture and tasting, set for June 17 at 6pm, will focus on Carmignano’s 300 years of winemaking: in 1716 Cosimo III de’ Medici declared Carmignano one of the four wine production zones of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
On Saturday and Sunday, various wine producers, restaurateurs and bakers will set up a “tasting village.” Fifteen food bloggers from around Italy will participate in a contest to create a recipe using exclusively Pratese ingredients; an awards ceremony will take place in the piazza.
Throughout the month of June, 10 restaurants in Prato will offer special menus designed for the festival. The full program and participating venues will soon be online here. Additional information can be found on the Facebook page “EatPrato.”
