Stretch your legs, grab your wallet and polish your eardrums: today is the tenth edition of international Record Store Day! Like many of cities across the globe, Florentine music vendors will be taking part in this widespread audiophile initiative with limited edition releases, on-site events, concerts, discounts and djsets and we’ve got it all covered. Shop hop, peruse and crate-dig to your heart’s content.

Contempo Records

Via dei Neri 15R

If you want to delve into Italy’s Hardcore past – now’s the time. Alongside the usual discounts and reissues, Contempo Records will be observing this audiophile festivity with the exclusive release of two albums by pivotal bands and figures of the time: Negazione Negazione (La Nostra Vita), a limited edition vinyl box-set of the band’s complete discography – legendary bass player Marco Mathieu will be signing records and meeting the fans until 1 pm – and former member of Litfiba and CSI Gianni Maroccolo’s 7” Buona La Prima. At 7pm the store will be hosting the presentation of Antonio Cecchi’s autobiographical book No More Pain. Un viaggio nell’anima on his experience with CCM (which, in case you’re wondering, stands for Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers), one of Italy’s most influential punk hardcore bands from Pisa, and the underground scene.

Sleeve Records

Via dei Banchi 15

A few of you might not know that a record store has recently opened its doors just a stone’s throw away from The Florentine’s headquarters, in our very own Via de Banchi off Piazza Santa Maria Novella. Sleeve Records will be the ruin of us! Twinned with hip apparel shop Vintage55, their growing selection is made up of strictly vinyl. Starting 4 pm, they will be celebrating Record Store Day 2017 with a special live streaming of in-store performances by turntable whiz kids The Grasso Brothers, VSUM and Mirko Casalini. Tune in from home on their facebook page or drop by – Sleeve will also be providing over 500 new hand selected vinyl, to enhance your RSD digging experience. This is but the first of a series of monthly live-broadcast get-togethers with well known DJs from around the globe showcasing their collection and personal music knowledge.

Danex Records

Via degli Artisti 8C

You can also listen to your purchase on spot! Ph. Nouk

Just a few steps away from piazza Savonarola, deejay and music junkie Daniele “Danex” Nesi has created a true audiophile haven. Packed with rarities, new releases and second-hand vinyl, this store is worth a little detour from the city centre. On Record Store Day 2017, the store will be offering all day round discounts and a special limited edition Danex Records t-shirt, while from 5 pm to 7.30 pm local music junkie legends will take over the turntables with their funky, balearic vibes: Manu Archeo , Luca Fani and Guido Caselli. You’re all invited to join the party!

Dischi Fenice

Via Santa Reparata 8B

If you love opera, soundtracks, liturgical and classical music head on over to Dischi Fenice, just behind San Lorenzo’s Mercato Centrale. They’re taking Record Store Day 2017 very seriously and stretching it to the max – the shop will be offering a number of discounts until April 29: on a minimum purchase of 20€ you get 3€ off, 5€  if you spend 30 and so on. Books will be sold for 2€. The store is preparing a rich calendar of book and record presentations for the month of May so keep your eyes peeled for a symphony of get-togethers.

Move On

Piazza San Giovanni 1R

Located in Florence’s most beloved piazza (check out the amazing view overlooking the Duomo and Baptistry!), this nifty venue is both pub and record store. 15% off their whole catalogue and fresh poured pints of beer could be a recipe for disaster! Starting 4 pm, the upstairs floor will be hosting an 8 hour-long djset featuring Florentine label Bosconi Records’ star-studded roster of deejays and producers: Zak, Cante, Teo Naddi, Fabio della Torre and funky electro-duo Nas1 from Bologna. Oh and be prepared: their pug-shaped speakers are absolutely adorable!

Twisted Jazz Shop

Borgo San Frediano 21R

All you cool, jazz-lovin’ cats are bound to fall in love with this trinket-packed joint in the Oltrarno. Let loose and get carried away with some of Record Store Day 2017’s exclusive, limited edition, high-quality, collectable jazz releases: Bill Evans Another time, Jaco Pistorius Truth Liberty and soul live in NYC 1982, Wynton Kelly/Wes Montgomery Smokin’ in seattle 1966 – timeless must-haves that will make any vinyl-head crazy jealous. While you’re at it, stroll your new possessions over to Florence’s bohemian Piazza Santo Spirito or admire Piazza del Carmine’s Basilica.

Yellow Record

Via Torcidoda 169R

Last but not least, this place is truly off the beaten path. Located in the Isolotto district, via Torcicoda is near the beautiful Villa Vogel park so you can combine your “mint” purchases with a breath of fresh air. On Record Store Day 2017, from 3.30 pm onwards Yellow Records will be toasting to music with a special welcome drink and live concert. Make the most of your Record Store day and discover another side of Florence!
