Hidden within the architecture faculty of the University of Florence, the deconsecrated Santa Verdiana church and cloister (piazza Ghiberti 27) are currently hosting the fourth edition of the architecture and performance-themed festival, “Nel Chiostro delle Geometrie,” running until October 19.
Launched in 2014 through a collaboration between the Teatro Studio Krypton and DIDA, the University of Florence Architecture Department, the festival has a full program of workshops, installations, performance art and readings, all adhering to this year’s “SymmetryAsymmetry” theme.
With artistic direction from Giancarlo Cauteruccio and scientific direction from Prof. Carlo Terpolilli, the project’s aim is to juxtapose the Renaissance symmetry of Filippo Brunelleschi with the complex asymmetry derived from contemporary art, in order to focus on the relation between architecture, theatre and art.
The June 19 inauguration featured a site-specific installation titled “Electric Church: The Voices of Space,” directed by Giancarlo Cauteruccio, which can be visited until June 23.
All events are free and open to the public.
