After a year and a half of work and temporary digital channel, the Uffizi Galleries finally has its own dedicated website, breaking away from the outdated portal of the Polo Museale Fiorentino. Launched on September 27, the website is a one-stop shop for information, tickets and news about the museums that make up the Galleries: the Uffizi, Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens.

Inspired by Vasari’s architectural style and Renaissance typography, the sleek and easily navigable website intends to offer visitors a smooth experience when searching for info about the museums. The homepage leads directly to separate sections for each museum in the Galleries’ network, and from there, visitors can search for information on each institution’s general logistics, such as timetable and prices, how to arrive and services, as well as browse the collections and learn about the history of each place. Visitors can also buy their tickets directly from the website, a major step towards cutting down on alternative online sale points that tend to overcharge.

Indeed, eliminating misinformation and price gouging is a leading mission of the new website. The site and logo are now registered trademarks, which officially makes it illegal to imitate the logo, an oft-attempted trick by those wanting to make their alternative websites seem like the official channel. Eike Schmidt, director of the Uffizi Galleries, explained at the website and logo’s launch, “Now we can bring the scalpers to court. Their activities are based on ambiguity” in piazzale degli Uffizi, where “they’ll often wear false uniforms.”

Schmidt further announced the website’s intention to continually grow, with new content being added every week. “No one will have the amount of content that we’ve included in our site and no one can provide that content as quickly as we will,” the Director explained. “For this, our official website will continuously be ranked at the top of search engines like Google.”
