Tomorrow Florence paints the town orange as Halloween celebrations take over the Tuscan capital. Break out your best ghoul/goblin/witch wear and make your way to one of these spooky shindigs (all are scheduled for October 31 unless otherwise noted).

Flash Mo-bike & Aperol Party
From 9pm
MAD Souls & Spirits, borgo San Frediano 36r, Florence

Orange you glad MAD Souls & Spirits, recently raved about in Lonely Planet, has kept its craft cocktail game going for a solid year now? Coinciding with Halloween is the friendly outfit’s first anniversary. To celebrate, the staff is hosting an Orange-hued, Aperol-based evening with an eco-friendly angle. Customers are encouraged to arrive via Mobike and those who do, contributing to Florence’s first known “Flash Mob(ike),” will receive a free orange cocktail. More information here

Danse Macabre + Botanical Show
From 7.30pm
L’Atlante (Firenze Number Nine), via dei Conti 9, Florence

Blur the lines between dreams and reality at the first ever Botanical Show put on by L’Atlante (Firenze Number Nine) and dedicated to the Victorian macabre. Be transported to a dark and eerie Scottish garden, created with a pinch of imagination, elaborate floral installations and tableaux vivants, plus a doom-and-gloom DJ set by Blasy. Sip on a cheeky “Blood” cocktail inspired by feminine intuition (13euro, made with Stolichnaya vodka, home-pressed lemon juice, blackberry, sugar syrup, black ink cloud, amaretto liquor drop, prosecco), or dig in to a brand new, decadent treat from Firenze Number Nine’s pastry chef. Dress code: “Doomed Romantic/Gothic/Decadent Sexuality.” More information here.

The Shining
10.30pm
Odeon Cinema, piazza Strozzi, Florence

Here’s Johnny! Grab some popcorn and prepare for prickly skin as you see the remastered version* of Stanley Kubrick’s scary classic. Starring Jack Nicholson in one of his most sinister roles, the movie is based on the novel by Stephen King and set at the ominous Overlook Hotel in the dead of winter. (Can’t make the Halloween screening? You’ll have two other chances to see it on November 1 and 2 at 9pm both nights).

“Spavento e Terrore” in Via Romana
5-7pm
Various venues on via Romana, Florence

Via Romana will transform into a veritable Halloween village on October 31, with shops opening their doors for tiny trick-or-treaters from 5 to 7pm. Witches (the friendly kind!) will be out and about to mingle with costumed children, and the salon Beleza e natureza estetica (via Romana 30r) will offer face painting for pint-sized partygoers. More information here.

Halloween at Red Garter
From 10pm
Red Garter, via de’ Benci 33/35r, Florence

American sports bar and karaoke go-to Red Garter hosts its customary costume party (with a competition to see who can be the scariest – certainly none of the friendly clowns from this archived photo, taken from another themed festa). A makeup artist and photographer will be present. Call 055 2480909 for more information.

A creepy concert at COMBO
From 11pm
Combo Social Club, via Mannelli 2, Florence

Make it a musical evening at Combo Social Club, where Balkan Tir will perform Eastern European rhythms, followed by a DJ set from Moresco. More info here.

Dia de los muertos
From 6pm
Tijuana, via il Prato 57-59r, Florence

Ring in the Day of the Dead at Florentine Tex-Mex institution Tijuana. The via il Prato location will be decked out in themed decorations for the occasion and diners are encouraged to wear costumes and color their own Catrina at the table. Facebook event here.

Mercalloween
From 7pm
Mercato Centrale first floor, piazzale Mercato Centrale, Florence

The crowd-pleasing pit stop Mercato Centrale’s first floor will offer free face painting for children between 5 and 9pm, and temporary sweets stand Brigidini, Chicche e Dolcezze! will distribute treats. Parents and those beyond the trick-or-treat age threshold can sit back with a drink and enjoy the venue’s latest contemporary art installation, which has a suitably mysterious UFO theme.
