On January 8, 2018, entrance to the Baptistery will become free for Florentines and residents in the Florence province. To make the most of this decision by the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, the organization that protects, promotes and maintains the Florence cathedral complex, just show your Italian identity card at the Baptistery doors. Prior to this change, entry to the Baptistery was only free for Mass and religious occasions.

In other Duomo news, as from March 1, the ticket providing access to Brunelleschi’s Cupola, Giotto’s Bell Tower, Santa Reparata Crypt, Baptistery and the Opera del Duomo Museum will cost three euro more, rising from 15 to 18 euro. To make up for the price increase, tickets will be valid for longer; 72 instead of the current 48 hours.
