For the 275th anniversary of the death of Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici, the Palatine Gallery at the Palazzo Pitti is dedicating a day to commemorate this influential figure and her impact on Florence.

The last descendant of the Medici Grand Dukes and Electress of the Palatinate, Anna Maria Luisa was fundamental in defining Florence as the city of art for which it is now known the world over. Among her achievement was the Family Pact of 1737, which bestowed all the property and riches belonging to the Medici collections to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. This was on the condition that they be used as an asset to its citizens, to draw in foreign interest and that none of the collections be moved outside its borders.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Associazione MUS.E and the Uffizi Galleries, and takes place on Sunday, February 18, in the Sala di Bono in the Palatine Gallery. There will be six performances throughout the day (10am, 11am, 12pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm), followed by a public discussion to better understand this woman within the context of 18th-century Florence.
