A masterpiece has been returned to the city. The Crucified Christ Between Saints Niccolò and Francesco, one of Fra Angelico’s lesser-known works, is on show in the Fondazione CR Firenze building until June 24.

Displayed for a long time in the Museum of San Marco, the fifteenth-century painting returned to its original home, the sacristy of San Niccolò del Ceppo, before being restored by Florence’s Opificio delle Pietre Dure.

The same exhibition also displays a small religious painting from Jacopo da Empoli’s workshop (1551-1640), found at the bottom of a cabinet in the archives of the Compagnia di San Niccolò del Ceppo, in via dei Pandolfini. Both works were restored thanks to funding from the Foundation.

The exhibition opening marks the end of the restoration work in the Fondazione CR Firenze building in via Bufalini 6, its artworks, furniture and archives, which cost around 900,000 euro. This project is part of a broader restoration plan of the ancient oratories in Florence.

The exhibition is free to visit upon appointment. Call 055/5384348 or write to press@fondazionecrfirenze.it.
