On the occasion of San Giovanni, June 24, the Galleria d’arte La Fonderia launched an innovative exhibition celebrating the best of Florence from the 1950s to the present day. The collective show displays artists who “made history in Florence”, creating and vaunting Florentine identity. Artists include Vinicio Berti, Gualtiero Nativi, Mario Nuti and Alvaro Monnini. Open from Monday to Friday, 10am-1pm and 3.30-8pm, Saturdays from 10am-1pm, booking required.

What will the future of the Renaissance city look like

 

 

The British Institute of Florence hosts a panel discussion online in collaboration with The Florentine about the future of Florence.  As prompted by Dario Nardella’s talk at the end of May envisioning the socio-economic reconstruction of Florence following the COVID-19 crisis, four local internationalists discuss what the challenges and plans for how it can be constructed. Participating panelists are John Hooper, Italy correspondent for The Economist, Georgette Jupe, Editor and blogger Girl in Florence, Morgan Fiumi, Digital entrepreneur and Marco del Panta, Special Adviser to the Mayor for International Affairs and Higher Education, chaired by Simon Gammell, director of The British Institute of Florence. The event will be held on Zoom (up to 100 people) and will also be streamed live on Facebook. Audience interaction encouraged. The free-entry events programme at the summer hang out spot features live music, art exhibitions and an international menu including Karaage (Japenese chicken street food) and panin cu u ‘pure (sandwich with fried octopus, ricotta, toasted cicorino, fig and honey).
