The biggest gift any of us can give is one that makes a difference. Whether it’s a donation to an association, giving to a food bank or volunteering our time in a meaningful way, make this Christmas a happier one for those in need.

Natale Per File

Usually a highlight of the Florentine Christmas calendar, the Nataleperfile Market at Palazzo Corsini will not take place this year. However, their online shop has an abundant selection of perfect Christmas parcels, with all funds raised going towards palliative care services for patients in advanced stages of illness and their families. Choose from Christmas hampers brimming with food and wine donated from local businesses, or panettone and pandoro made by Corsini Biscotti, all delightfully packaged in a colourful gift box. A raffle will be hosted online at midday on December 21, with exciting prizes donated by businesses and supporters.

Associazione Tumori Toscana

Make a difference for cancer patients who are in need of assistance at home. This year has been exceptionally difficult for those suffering from serious illnesses. Choose a gift from the Associazione Tumori Toscana (Tuscan Cancer Association) and know that all funds will go directly towards assisting cancer patients and their families. Choices include pandori, panettoni and other typical Christmas presents that you will be able to have delivered directly to your home or that of the recipient.

Unicoop Firenze

Unicoop Firenze have launched a fundraising campaign to support research on monoclonal antibodies needed to combat Covid-19. In collaboration with Toscana Life Sciences, the initiative launches on December 1 and will go on until January 6 as the crowdfunding project seeks to raise as much as possible to fund this essential research. The recipient will be Mad Lab, the research laboratory of the Toscana Life Sciences Foundation, coordinated by the internationally renowned scientist Rino Rappuoli. Following the recent fundraising campaign, Unicoop Firenze have just donated 40,000 euro towards fighting against food poverty as part of the Nessun Indietro (Nobody Left Behind) initiative.

Calendar for Caritas

Caritas have launched their 2021 calendar, sales of which will go towards assisting families and citizens in difficulty. Money raised will be used to buy shopping vouchers for those in the Caritas parish. The calendar is titled 'A Light Breeze' and was created by parents who have experienced the loss of a child and have decided to come together to offer support to those who are living with that pain. The photos of the calendar depict symbolic Florentine sites, such as the Baptistery of San Giovanni and the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte, while the balloons on the cover represent the children lost by the families who are part of the association.

Fondazione Angeli del Bello Onlus

Andrea, of Fondazione Angeli del Bello Onlus, will host a virtual walk at 5.40pm on December 3 via Zoom that will discuss their latest projects and how to help. Options include donating a brick or ordering their ecological face masks that can be washed up to 15 times and have been made in Tuscany.

Give any extra food you might have to those who have none. Opening hours: 9am-4.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am-12 noon Saturday; closed on Sunday. If you are interested in volunteering, you can get in touch by emailing [email protected] The charity is working with Croce Rossa Italiana - Comitato di Firenze and delivering groceries, medicines and meals. Donate or volunteer and assist those in need this season.

Alternatively, support Banco Alimentare, the nationwide food bank charity, by buying a two, five or ten-euro gift card in supermarkets and online from Amazon.it, Esselungaacasa.it and Mygiftcard.it. The monies will go towards the purchase of long-life foods and distributed via the food bank’s regional headquarters, helping more than two million people.
