On July 27, the restoration of the Tabernacle dell’Arte dei Rigattieri and Linaioli was presented on the occasion of the Feast of Sant’Anna, whose worship has been celebrated in the Church of Orsanmichele on via dell’Arte della Lana for centuries. The works were entirely funded by the Associazione Amici dei Musei e dei Monumenti Fiorentini.
The newly restored tabernacle
The necessary work was carried out due to the poor state of conservation that was revealed during a renovation campaign of the 14 external tabernacles carried out in Autumn 2020. The painstaking project was conducted by restorers Louis Pierelli and Gabriella Tonini (Nike Restauri Opere d’Arte), and involved the consolidation of disintegrated parts and thorough cleaning of the marble aedicule and the copy of the statue of the patron saint. The tabernacle is a refined example of Late Gothic architectural decoration, carried out between 1411 and 1413 by Perfetto di Giovanni and Albizzo di Piero.
