Florence has introduced regulations for mask wearing and pedestrian flow over the Christmas holidays in order to keep infection numbers low this winter.

Masks must be worn in busy areas of central Florence between 10am and 10pm on December 4-12, 17-19, 23-26, 30-31 and more specifically within the historic centre formed by the following perimeter: piazza Duomo – piazza S. Giovanni – via de Pecori – via dell’Agli – piazza Antinori – via Tornabuoni – piazza S. Trinità – lungarno Acciaioli – via Por S. Maria – Ponte Vecchio – via Vacchereccia – piazza della Signoria – via de Gondi – via del Proconsolo. Masks must also be worn in piazzale degli Uffizi, via dei Neri, piazza San Lorenzo and via Borgo San Lorenzo, piazza Santa Croce, via Gioberti, borgo La Croce and via Pietrapiana, piazzale Oriana Fallaci, from viale Strozzi, and piazzale Caduti dell’Egeo (in the Fortezza Gardens).

Face coverings must be used at all outdoor events, such as markets, fairs, demonstrations and shows, organized in Florence over the Christmas holidays.

On December 18, 19 and 24, between 2 and 8pm, pedestrians must observe a one-way system marked by barriers and manned by the police in the following areas of Florence: via dei Calzaiuoli (between via de’ Tosinghi and via Porta Rossa), with access from piazza Duomo and exit from piazza della Signoria; via Calimala (via porta Rossa-piazza della Repubblica), with access from via Porta Rossa and exit from piazza della Repubblica.

Failure to observe the rules may result in a fine ranging between 400 and 1,000 euro.
