Italy’s Covid rules are set to change in April 2022 as hospitalization rates slow, despite rising infection numbers. The green pass will be removed as of May 1, while the mask wearing requirement indoors will continue until April 30. Here’s the timeline to post-pandemic living in Italy.

Eating and drinking
As of April 1, you will no longer be required to show your green pass to sit outdoors at a bar or restaurant. From May 1, the reinforced green pass (proof of vaccination or recovery) will no longer be needed to eat or drink indoors.
Accommodation
As of April 1, you can stay at a hotel and other forms of accommodation without showing reinforced green pass (proof of vaccination or recovery).
Museums and exhibitions
As of April 1, museums and exhibitions will no longer require the reinforced green pass (proof of vaccination or recovery).
Conferences
The green pass will remain mandatory until April 30, but delegates will be able to enter trade fairs and conference without documentation as from May 1.
Shops, hairdressers, banks and post offices
As from April 1, no documentation will need to be shown to enter shops, banks, post offices, hairdressers, barber’s shops, beauty salons.
Cinemas and theatres
The requirement to show a reinforced green pass (proof of vaccination or recovery) in cinemas and theatres will end on May 1. Masks must continue to be worn until May 31.
Sports
As from March 31, green passes will no longer need to be shown to attend outdoor games. Sports enthusiasts will be able to go to matches without Covid documentation as from April 1, but masks must continue to be worn until April 30.
Pools and gyms
The reinforced green pass (proof of vaccination or recovery) will remain a requirement at the gym, pool or for indoor sports until April 30.
Transport
No documentation will be required on public transportation as from April 1, although FFP2 face coverings must still be worn until April 30.
