Extended museum hours to honour Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici

Medici Chapels Museums to close briefly for improvements.

The Bargello, Medici Chapels Museum and Palazzo Davanzati Museum will mark the death day of Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici with extended hours openings on February 18.

The last descendent of the Medici family died on February 18, 1743 and proved instrumental to the future of Florence through her “Family Pact”, which stipulated that “galleries, paintings, statues, libraries, jewellery and other precious objects from the lineage of the Most Serene Grand Duke’ were to remain ‘for the ornamentation of the State, to benefit the public and to attract the curiosities of foreigners”.

On February 18, opening hours to the Bargello, Medici Chapels Museum, Palazzo Davanzati Museum and the Casa Martelli Museum will remain unchanged, but on Monday 20, Wednesday 22, Thursday 23 and Friday 24 the Bargello will extend its opening hours from 8.15am to 6:15pm (last entrance is 50 minutes before closing time). On Monday 20, Palazzo Davanzati Museum will open especially from 8.15am to 1.15pm and on Friday 23 it will open from 8.15am to 6:50pm (last entry is 40 minutes before closing time). On Friday 24, the opening time has changed to 8.15am, but closing time is, as usual, at 6:50pm.

From February 20 to 24, the Medici Chapels Museums will remain closed for the installation of the new ticket office and improvements to the accessibility of the museum spaces. For more information, visit the website.
