Bring the Boboli Gardens to your home by heading to one of Florence’s many horticultural markets to pick up a houseplant or two this spring.

The historic flower market held on Thursdays held at via Pellicceria (near piazza della Repubblica) hosts several horticulturalists and is currently in need of support as vendor numbers dwindle. Northwest of the city centre, you’ll find Florence’s biggest open-air market in the Cascine park with plants a plenty on Tuesdays from 8am to 2pm. La Fierucola markets take place in various locations in the city, with sellers offering a range of products, from houseplants to clothing to food. Visit piazza del Carmine on the second Sunday of the month between 9am and 2pm, and piazza Santo Spirito on the third Sunday of the month, between 9am and 7pm.

If you’re after more of a vibe, the number of florists/eateries in Florence is steadily on the rise. La Ménagère (via de’ Ginori 8/R) not only offers horticultural workshops and bouquets for home delivery, but also boasts an Instagram-worthy restaurant and drinks bar. Also combining horticulture with dining is Le Lune Ristorante & Vivaio (via San Domenico 36), where you can enjoy a high-end meal and also pick up some beautiful flowers from the well-stocked nursery. Another place to grab some well-nurtured plants is C.BIO (via della Mattonaia 3/A), the upmarket grocery store by Sant’Ambrogio market with plants available for sale on the first-floor terrace. Founded by local legend Fabio Picchi, it’s about to go up for auction, so head there whilst you still can.
