Fiesole is in the running to become the Italian Capital of Culture 2027.

“We have already formalized the candidacy and now we will move to carry out all the steps that will allow us to access the selection,” comments Cristina Scaletti, who recently became the Mayor of Fiesole. “Our town can absolutely aspire to be a global cultural benchmark. It is a place with beautiful scenery, which humans have expertly added to with respect and kindness, creating a unique combination of art, human endeavours and landscape.”
The picturesque hilltop town has plenty to support its candidacy: breathtaking views of Florence, excavations of an Etruscan temple, an outdoor Roman theatre used for a summer showcase of events and a brand-new indoor theatre, a cathedral with sculptures by Mino da Fiesole and a plethora of handsome villas and gardens, as well as being home to an internationally renowned music school, the Primo Conti and Giovanni Michelucci foundations.
