Three contemporary art exhibitions are currently on show at Manifattura Tabacchi, via delle Cascine 35, with Giornata del Contemporaneo (Contemporary Day) on October 12 proving the perfect opportunity to see the exhibitions on display. There are even free guided tours to mark the occasion, upon reservation.

Massimo Listri

19 large-format works by renowned photographer Massimo Listri are on display in Building 11 until November 14. Two shots of the former tobacco factory are on show alongside famous sites like the Uffizi Galleries and the Vatican Museums, as well as monuments from further afield like the Shanghai Himalayas Museum. The exhibition realized in collaboration with Gruppo Editoriale exemplifies Listri’s photographic language that uses light, colour and perspective to imbue historical places with an aura of sacred silence, enabling viewers to immerse themselves in the spaces devoid of human presence. Free admission, open 2-8pm, Tuesday to Friday, and from midday to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday.

Even in a castle you can fall

Museo Novecento presents the WONDERFUL! Art Research Programme – 1st Edition Maria Manetti Shrem results in the Caveau space until November 10, in an exhibition titled Anche in un castello si può cadere (Even in a castle you can fall). The artists on show are Friedrich Andreoni, Lucia Cantò, Benedetta Fioravanti and Giovanna Repetto, winners of the first residency project. The curator, Benedetta Casini, elaborates, “The title of the exhibition alludes to a fall as an unexpected event, a stumble in a seemingly obstacle-free path that opens the possibility of a reversed gaze, directed toward the depths of unknown, sometimes inhospitable places.” Free admission from 5-8pm, Wednesday to Friday, and midday to 8pm, Saturday and Sunday.

The Toast Project Space sees Amitai Romm’s Influencer Sarcophagus until November 3, alluding to the design of systems for organizing matter. His research is dedicated to exploring how societies define, separate, convey and manipulate objects and information, transforming spaces into environments in which materials are ordered, sifted and dislocated. Viewers can expect to see objects such as containers, packaging materials for food and goods, and satellite dishes as symbols that disperse signals by echoing others, in reference to the methods of commercial and sensorial distribution of the present. Free admission, every day from 9am to 11pm. Write to info@toastproject.it to book a guided tour.

Botanica Urbana and BioRitmo

Botanica Urbana is an event from 10am on October 19 organized in collaboration with the Società Toscana Orticoltura, designed to rediscover and enhance the presence of greenery in urban contexts. The programme includes a plant and flower market, workshops for adults and children and a BioRitmo DJ set from midday to 7pm, with gardening tips for a sustainable garden and cyanotope workshops for all ages forming part of the lineup.
