Pink October, the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, sees various activities take place across Florence.

Firenze in Rosa ONLUS hold a Pink Ribbon Walk from 4.30pm on October 20. Starting from piazza Poggi, walkers weave their way to piazzale Michelangelo where participants take part in a flash mob, creating a human pink ribbon, the symbol of prevention. For the occasion, Michelangelo’s David will get a pink makeover.

Other main monuments pinkify from October 20-27, including the historic gates of the city, Teatro Puccini, the loggia of Istituto degli Innocenti and the new entrance of AOU Careggi. The initiatives also spread across Tuscany, with Pratolino, Vaglia, Rufina, Barberino di Mugello, Palazzuolo sul Senio and Laterina Pergine Valdarno also turning pink in support.
From October 21-25, the traditional Pink Point comes to The Social Hub in viale Lavagnini, where the non- profit organization offers free breast ultrasound checks upon reservation for women up to 45 years of age and over 75 years of age, age ranges that are not included in the regional screening programme. It’s also open to men with the disease in their families.
Firenze in Rosa have organized the #BePINK! campaign from October 20-27, with people invited to decorate windows, balconies and storefronts pink, displaying the pink ribbon kit developed by the non-profit organization.

LILT Firenze Onlus (Italian League for the Fight against Cancer) organizes free breast cancer checks to mark Breast Cancer Awareness month. The visits are held on October 10, 11, 15, 17, 21+25 at the mobile unit in piazza della Repubblica and in the clinics of Istituto Prosperius, the Misericordia of Fiesole and Teatro Reims.
