A dining experience is made memorable by the people you spend it with, and the homely feel of I’Tuscani in piazza San Pancrazio 2r ensures that sense of familiarity with fellow diners, all down to the welcome offered by the smiling staff. While savouring each morsel, we observed one table receiving a lesson on how to dunk Cantucci in their Vin Santo (NOT a shot), and later a couple beside us were served a birthday cake while the lights were dimmed and the entire restaurant joined in singing. The warm chats with the attentive and charming Enrico, Oliver and chef Ever between bites were as noteworthy as the quality of the ingredients, which certainly left a favourable impression.

Formed in Florence by Alberto Florindo, Enrico Burberi and Barbara Fagioli, the passion for all things Tuscan is fostered in an ambience that attracts both locals and international diners, uniting all those who seek a high-quality food and wine experience. Certain additions to the menu appease those less-accustomed to the likes of lampredotto, with more unsightly meats masked in a bignè crowned with salsa verde, providing the perfect introduction to the Florentine favourite. Cooking classes are even offered for those inspired to take home Tuscan tips.

The bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine steak) cooked to the perfect point was exactly what you’d hope it to be, with the short and sustainable supply chain the result of a careful selection process, choosing from certified producers of the likes of Chianina IGP, Maremmana and Simmenthal.

An agreement with Treedom means that a tree is planted every 17 seats, and the eco-sustainability efforts are even extended to the tables that were made using wood that previously formed the hull of boats located on the Tuscan coast.

With the windows casting onto Museo Marino Marini and strollers enjoying their passeggiata, the rich burgundy decor inside, coupled with the Bolgheri in our bicchieri, created the cozy feeling that makes you want to sit on for hours, drawing out the meal with a cheesecake and chianti classico reduction and post-dinner grappa spent discussing the postcards around the walls that share typically Tuscan expressions, giving a linguistic education as much as a culinary one.
