Associazione Tumori Toscana, the charity that helps treat cancer patients in their own homes, marks its 25th anniversary in the spectacular setting of the Palazzo Vecchio’s Salone dei Cinquecento on December 5. The event will offer the opportunity to reflect on the ongoing commitment to free home oncology care and to present future projects.

Over the years, ATT has provided support to 21,000 patients, working to ensure relief, professionalism and dignity with a service that is completely free of charge. Operating 24 hours, every day of the year, ATT works in the provinces of Florence, Prato and Pistoia, assisting approximately 300 patients daily with a team of doctors, psychologists, nurses and social health workers. Liaising with the patient’s family doctor and hospital, the service enables those undergoing treatment to stay with their families while receiving the advice and support of a medical team. A professional counselling service and necessary medical devices, such as hospital beds and wheelchairs, are all provided by the charity that relies entirely on private donations and funds raised during promotional campaigns.

Founded in 1999 by the current president Giuseppe Spinelli, the main objective has always been that no cancer patient should feel alone. As a young doctor, Spinelli began to offer his expertise free of charge to cancer patients and was soon joined by more and more volunteers. His dedication was acknowledged in 2018 with the awarding of the Fiorino d’Oro by former mayor Dario Nardella, the highest honour awarded by the Municipality of Florence. Over the years, many well-known figures have taken part in awareness campaigns, including Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli, footballers Pepito Rossi and Federico Chiesa, and coach Stefano Pioli.

To attend the 25th anniversary event in Salone dei Cinquecento, which includes a buffet and features special guests, a donation of 120 euro is requested, with tickets available on the website.
