On March 21, the Medici Museum in Livorno was inaugurated. The first floor of the Granai di Villa Mimbelli (via San Jacopo in Acquaviva 67, Livorno) now hosts a rich collection of paintings, drawings, objects and documents, including medals, coins and other items either belonging to or dedicated to the Medici family and its deep relationship with the city of Livorno.

A scholar of Medici history since the discovery of a letter by Bianca Cappello, Nicola Molea has created an extensive collection that he wanted to turn into a museum with the motto “collect to pass on”. The Medici history expert Marco Passeri and Angelo Chiantelli of The American Club of the Riviera cultural association collaborated on the project.

The collection introduces visitors to new aspects and curiosities related to the Medici and their influence on the times they lived through. Divided thematically and chronologically, the Medici are detailed from various points of view. The museum also includes a space dedicated to temporary exhibitions.

The itinerary inside the Granai di Villa Mimbelli space was developed by a scientific committee composed of art historian and curator of the exhibition, Pierluigi Carofano, historian and expert in the history of the Knights of Santo Stefano, Franco Angiolini, medievalist historian, Gabriella Garzella, archivist at the Superintendence of Archives and Bibliography of Tuscany, Claudia Borgia, and head of the Libraries and Museums Office representing the Municipality of Livorno, Valeria Cioni.
