After dedicating Albero della Pace to Florence in memory of the Via dei Georgofili bombing victims, Andrea Roggi returns to the city with a new exhibition: Humanitas | The Power of Love, on view from May 10 to August 8, 2025 at the Basilica of San Lorenzo, under the patronage of the City of Florence.

Curated by art historian Laura Speranza, the exhibition features nine bronze sculptures that trace Roggi’s artistic journey—from his first anthropomorphic bronze Atman (1980s) to Energia della Conoscenza (Energy of Knowledge), created specifically for this exhibition. Four monumental works dialogue with the unfinished facade and side elevation of the basilica, while four more will be installed in the Renaissance cloister, among greenery and a central orange tree that becomes a natural stage for Roggi’s vision.
Recognized internationally, Roggi’s monumental bronzes blend expressive power with technical mastery. His figures transform into tree trunks and olive branches with golden leaves, symbolising peace and the Tree of Life, a recurring theme in his work. Roots embedded in the Earth evoke deep ties to our past and to nature, while his patented dynamic casting technique enables seemingly gravity-defying balances.
The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on shared humanity, connection, and peace. Works like Famiglia in Volo and Imagine all the people—a globe adorned with dancing human figures—highlight diversity and the hope for unity. The basilica becomes the ideal setting for this artistic vision, amplifying the universal message of Humanitas: a call to compassion, awareness, and community.
