As a spin-off to the Lilo & Stitch animated film, Disney Italy, the country’s Ministry of Culture and the Galleria dell’Accademia have joined forces to make a promotional video, which aims to bring younger generations closer to the beauty of art by using an inclusive language.

Produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Rideback, the recently released American science fiction comedy film directed by Dean Fleischer Camp is an animated remake of Disney’s 2002 film of the same name.
The plot centres around a lonely human girl (Lilo, played by Maia Kealoha), who adopts a dog-like alien (Stitch, voice by Chris Sanders) to mend her fractured family, unaware that Stitch is genetically engineered to be a force of destruction, and is being pursued by aliens and social workers, while Lilo teaches Stitch the idea of family.
In the promotional video, Stitch’s rocket crashes into the Accademia before moving through the museum halls in a mischievous way, weaving around curious visitors and surprised restorers, causing chaos. But when he comes face-to-face with Michelangelo’s David, everything changes. The little alien stops in his tracks, struck by the beauty of the sculpture. It’s a moment of silence and wonder, showing how even an unconventional character can be captivated by the greatness of art. Inspired by the Renaissance masterpiece, Stitch decides to make his own sculpture in plaster adorned with a classical-style drape.
Stitch’s “statue” will be on public display in one of the Accademia’s rooms from May 20 to June 20, offering both kids and adults the chance to experience art through a fresh and playful perspective.
