According to the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP), there are more than 1.2 million active players in Italy.

Popular among racquet lovers, padel originated in Mexico and has firmly taken root in Italy. Usually at tennis clubs and larger gyms, the courts with their metal and glass structures can be found all around Florence. Here are a few of the ones bookable by the public. 

SPH Firenze padel

Padel Firenze by Olympus (via di Ripoli 88) was the first facility to welcome the sport to Florence with its seven courts, lessons and tournaments. Book by calling +39 375 9068274 or download the app from the website. Open 7am to midnight daily.

Centro Padel Firenze (via Generale C.A. della Chiesa 13, by Virgin Active Rovezzano) boasts eight padel courts in latest generation artificial turf open daily from morning to night with an online booking service. 

Porta Romana Padel Club (via Stefano Borgonovo) is the closest option to the city centre up in the hills behind piazzale Michelangelo. Two state-of-the-art courts are surrounded by greenery and can be booked on the Playtomic website. Open 8am-11pm everyday.

Padel Hidron SPH Firenze (via di Gramignano, Campi Bisenzio) is home to the Spector Padel House, the first padel club network in Italy, founded by former Italian padel trainer Gustavo Spector. It’s one of the largest padel centres in Tuscany with seven courts, lessons, tournaments and more. 

Chimera Club (via della Chimera) has the works: 4 padel courts and Florence’s first four pickleball courts as well as a beach tennis court. Courses are available for adults and children. 

Rondinella Padel Club (via Edoardo Detti 23), near Scandicci, has four latest-generation courts, arranges lessons as well as organizing wheelchair open days. Open daily from 7am to midnight. Online booking available.

Bpadel Firenze (via del Perugino 45), just off the FI-PI-LI highway by the Freeland mall and the Palazzo Wanny sports area, has eight courts in quality World Padel Tour artificial grass that can be booked using the app downloadable from the website. Lessons can also be booked online, but you need to be a member (15 euro/annual).

Tennis clubs with padel courts include Florentia (near Fiesole), Curiel (in Pontassieve), Quaracchi (near Florence Airport) and Valleverde (Ponte a Ema).
